Why We Made ShoesRx (And What's Actually In the Bottle)

We got tired of watching people ruin their sneakers with kitchen cleaners, magic erasers, and bleach. Here's why the ShoesRx system exists — and what each piece actually does.

Why We Made ShoesRx (And What's Actually In the Bottle)

Most sneaker care advice on the internet is bad. Toothpaste. Bleach pens. Hot water in a washing machine. Magic erasers on suede.

These tips don't just disappoint — they actively damage the material. So we built ShoesRx as the opposite of that: a small, focused system where every piece has one job and does it without wrecking the shoe.

The Three Ingredients

Every ShoesRx kit is a combination of bottles and tools. The bottles are the work. The tools just help you apply them correctly.

01

Cleaner

A pH-balanced foaming cleaner safe on leather, mesh, knit, suede, and rubber. It lifts dirt out of the material instead of grinding it deeper. No bleach, no harsh solvents, no fragrance trying to cover something up.

02

Whitener

For midsoles, outsoles, and white uppers that have gone dull or yellow. The yellowing on old sneakers is oxidation — the cleaner can't touch it. The whitener helps reverse it.

03

Protector

The step almost nobody does — and the reason most cleans don't last. A hydrophobic coating that makes water and dirt bead off instead of soaking in. One application buys you weeks of easier maintenance.

The Tools

A medium bristle brush for working cleaner into the upper, midsoles, and outsoles. And a multi-use sponge for lifting foam and wiping the shoe down. Two tools, every material covered.

Sounds simple because it is. The reason your shoes look bad after a clean usually isn't the cleaner — it's the wrong brush on the wrong material.

Why Four Kits?

Not everyone needs everything. So we split the system into four boxes, each built for a specific job:

  • Single Dose — cleaner + brush + sponge. The basic clean.
  • White Rx — cleaner + whitener + brush + sponge. For white sneaker owners.
  • Shield Rx — cleaner + protector + brush + sponge. Clean once, then protect.
  • Full Prescription — two cleaners, whitener, protector, brush + sponge. The complete setup.

What We Won't Do

  • No bleach — it cracks materials and yellows soles faster long term
  • No abrasive ingredients — they strip finish off leather
  • No 'all-in-one' shortcuts — cleaning and whitening are different jobs

The Goal

Keep the shoes you already own in rotation longer. That's it. Every formula, brush, and box exists for that one reason.

"If you take care of your sneakers, they take care of you. ShoesRx is just the simplest way we know to make that easy."
