THE SHOE CARE GUIDE

How to clean your shoes.

Why cleaning depends on material

Most sneakers are several materials at once: a leather or mesh upper, a rubber or foam midsole, sometimes suede overlays. Water, brushing, whitening and protection affect each one differently, so the safest plan treats every material separately instead of applying one method to the whole shoe.

How common materials are usually treated

Smooth leather

Light foam, small circles, wipe and air dry away from heat. How to clean leather sneakers.

Mesh, knit and canvas

Gentle brushing with minimal moisture; avoid soaking. Protection helps keep light colours clean.

Suede and nubuck

Work dry first, test any cleaner in a hidden spot, never whiten. How to clean suede shoes.

Rubber and foam midsoles

Clean first; whiten only visible discoloration on white, whitener-suitable areas.

White sneakers, yellowing and distressed designs

A white shoe doesn't automatically need whitening: whitening is for visible discoloration on suitable white materials, after cleaning. Some designer sneakers, such as Golden Goose, are aged on purpose, and that finish shouldn't be scrubbed away. Read how to clean white sneakers and how to clean Golden Goose sneakers.

How the ShoesRx scanner helps

Upload one photo and the scanner estimates what your shoe is made of, where it's dirty and whether whitening or protection is appropriate for each material. It then turns that into step-by-step instructions using real ShoesRx™ products and recommends the single kit that covers what your shoe actually needs, or none if a treatment can't be confirmed as suitable.

What photo-based analysis can't do

The scanner sees one image. It can misidentify a model, miss hidden damage, or misread a material under poor lighting. Its results are estimates, not guarantees. Always patch-test before full application, and treat suede, nubuck, exotic leathers and specialty finishes with extra care.
